Zgriptor is an independent journal exploring the intersections between material and digital cultures. It aims to promote discussion around themes of time, labour, technology, community action, and communication - unpacking the em(body)ment inherent in all of these topics. Dedicated to supporting the work of emerging writers and artists, the journal is published on a rolling basis online, and publishes a print edition once a year. Born out of a desire to make academic writing and criticism accessible, the journal hopes to offer space for experimental writing.
Big News. Save the Date for November 28th because we are launching Leo Fox's (@leofox__) new anthology of comics and poems. Please join us from 7-10pm at VFDalston (@vfdalston) for the launch of SONGS, and an evening of readings and performance.
SONGS brashly and tenderly explores ideas of intimacy + sex. Over the course of six comics and several poems, SONGS rolls, dives, and resurfaces through personal anxieties, odes of appreciation, and epic fabulations.
Comics function as an accessible vessel and bridge for theory and personal experience, and the selection in SONGS is a resplendent example. Although the press has previously focused on essays, we believe that good comics, like novels, function to do the same work as academic writing (with the added benefit of beauty and style!) We have always supported work which unpicks the em(body)ment(s) hidden within intersections, and hope to continue to offer a space for experimental communicative practices. Thank you to Leo for his trust and brilliant opus x
