Zgriptor is an independent journal exploring the intersections between material and digital cultures. It aims to promote discussion around themes of time, labour, technology, community action, and communication - unpacking the em(body)ment inherent in all of these topics. Dedicated to supporting the work of emerging writers and artists, the journal is published on a rolling basis online, and publishes a print edition once a year.  Born out of a desire to make academic writing and criticism accessible, the journal hopes to offer space for experimental writing.

What is there - that thing… those things - traversing the sticky and entangled spaces between digital and physical realms?

How far do their tendrils reach?

How can rapidly evolving technologies help fix the issues of our damaged planet, what collaborations should humans welcome, and what is the role of the artist when thinking about solutions for wider system and community collapse?

I want to use both digital and physical modes of making to create imagined realities, spaces and beings that both bring awareness to the rapid destruction of our home while not destroying hope. The space of 3D modelling helps me to process the relationships that humans have with technology and other nonhuman, or inanimate, beings, and most of my process is intuitive and experimental. I am less interested in the final outcome than what is to be gained through process and collaboration, whether that be with human, machine or other nonhuman entities.

While I have not yet formed the perfect language to talk about this new series of work, I know that they are hybrids, beings and unknown entities made up of full and functioning eco-systems that support the lives of all that inhabit them.
